This Netflix Original is a lot like Hell or High Water in that the direction and story aren’t the star here. Although Imperial Dreams side-steps many “inner city” cliches, it’s not redefining like another recent major film (which I’ll be reviewing later), and the filmmaking is solid and well done, but there is better work out there. Without a doubt the reason one should watch the film is the fantastic and ranged performance of John Boyega, who switches from broken father to charismatic charmer to torn artist, and everywhere in between.
