I guess it’s not entirely fair to expect the same “lightning in a bottle” which was The Lego Movie. Sure, the movie has heart and the signature Lego meta-humor, but this time round the emotional subtext feels more forced, the jokes still good but stale. All the same, the movie is just as beautifully animated (how can they look so much like real Legos?!), tons of fun for all, and clearly done with love and admiration for both the toy and the character—so be on the look out for some great references.
