Sure, the two leads needed another two months of vocal training, but honestly, there isn’t much else I could nitpick about La La Land. Surface level the film is about a love and loss, yada yada, but deeper in, we see that it’s a love song to dreams, dreamers, and those long and forgotten days of Hollywood, and the pain when dream and reality collide with messy results. The leads have undeniable chemistry, the tunes are catchy, the camera has a dance all its own, and the colors pop with a story of their own, coalescing into a near perfectly performed and directed masterpiece.
