X-Men: Days of Future Past was probably supposed to be the official send-off of the “original” cast, but I like to think Logan does a better job giving Hugh Jackman’s character-as well as that original universe I grew up with-a final goodbye. The script was very good, not mind blowing, but moved at a good pace, with underwhelming villains the only glaring flaw, and the direction and cinematography were top notch. The thing you go to see Logan for are Hugh Jackman’s tired, angry Wolverine on his last legs, and who I thought stole the show (and shattered my heart) the nonigenarian Charles Xavier played by Patrick Stewart–broken, dying, purposeless, the heart and driving force of the movie, who works in tandem with Jackman to properly bring this chapter to a close.
