I must be forward in that I wasn’t looking forward to this adaptation— Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney film—but I can’t say I did not enjoy the singing (Emma needed work though), the dancing and all the like. In fact, the movie was very pretty, and the additional half hour allows the writers time to further develop the characters and relationships which they do with much success. But all the same, I couldn’t help forgetting how “cash cow” the movie is, and even as I gasped or beamed widely, I couldn’t help but remember that it’s because it reminded me of those cherished moments I loved in the original, and not based on its own merits alone.
